In this song, Saint Arunagirinathar uses Vatsalya Bhava. Each one basically aims at a total surrender, and really there is no distinction in the true nature of devotion. Vatsalya is treating God as a child and madhura is treating God as husband. The remaining four involve emotional attachment with God. The first is a calm devotion for God and it mainly aims at detachment from worldliness. There are five forms of Bhakti - santa, dasya, sakhya, vatsalya, madhura - and they use various Bhavas as an expression of devotion and love. The bhakta attains oneness with the Divine through the force of love, the most powerful of emotions. Most religions emphasize this spiritual path because it is the most natural.

Some feel that Gnana or the path of wisdom is the ultimate, but many consider that a practical and workable would be to perform duties without attachment as in Karma yoga, practice meditation and control thoughts as in Raja yoga, and then gain Knowledge/ Gnana through Bhakti and self enquiry (Bhakti + Gnana Yoga) to reach the state of ultimate surrender and liberation.īhakti yoga is the path of devotion, the method of attaining God through love and the loving recollection of God. All aim at the same goal: self-realization. There are four paths to liberation they are called Bhakti Yoga, Gyana Yoga, Raja Yoga and Karma yogas.
